On The Inside

I’ve recently learned how to play a musical instrument – the drums. When I say recently I mean I’ve been working on it for 4 years (when you get older you tend to measure time in 5-10 year increments).

It has made all the difference for me as I have a whole new appreciation for music that I couldn’t see from the outside before. Now, I’m certainly no Neil Peart, but being a part of the music has given me another avenue in which to express my creativity.

I loved music before and certainly had an appreciation of it – especially on the dance floor – but, am now on the inside participating and riding the wave of melodies and contributing what I’m capable of doing. A beat. It’s not bad. It’s not great, but what the hell.

I feel like a rock star. A middle-aged rock star, but a rock star nevertheless.

The Infinite Beauty Of Our Light

I have heard that there is darkness in all of us. That I would agree. As human beings we are capable of almost anything.

However, that doesn’t mean we have to expand that darkness by focusing on it. Rather, let’s focus on the opposite. Shining our light of positivity so brightly that any darkness that may be present cowers itself in the smallest recesses and corners and remains there to stay.

Denial is not a solution to what is truly present in us. It is acknowledging the reality of its’ existence and choosing to focus on what makes us the best version of ourselves we can be.

The answer is LIGHT. Our light. The light of Love. The bright light of forgiveness. The warm glowing light of empathy. The guiding light of leadership. There is infinite light within all of us waiting to be lit. Ready to shine at our command.

Let’s light it up!

Must Begin

I continue to purposely procrastinate the inevitable. I’m aware of it, but still frozen. No movement. The writing is on the wall. It’s been years coming. We all know, but no one wants to prepare.

I have to write a eulogy. I want to write it. I must write it. But how.

How do you write something like that about someone who has brought you into this world? What meager words can I use to express someone who has been so profound in my life. What sentences can I string together to make any sense of a life time? For several years of my life, she was my life line.

How does one articulate and convey one’s feelings? I have no idea. I am lost. I don’t know where to begin.

But merely begin I must.

Happy To Learn

There’s a change in attitude when one takes the perspective of wanting to learn, rather than believing they already know everything (i.e. my teenage son).

When we are open to learning we welcome new ideas, approaches and perspectives we wouldn’t have considered before.

We tend to drop our ego -which would have us believe we’re the most important person in the world- and allow others to teach us. Guide us. Help us. And in turn, we are able to connect with them. And possibly even help them as they clarify to us what they know. We connect with them, not because we want anything in return, but because we have shared in a common interest. Learning.

Two unselfish people giving and taking – sharing and absorbing life experiences – teaching and learning is one of the most beautiful experiences we can have on this earth. I’m blown away every time I’m able to find that groove.

Staying Clean

We’re human beings and we’re not perfect in any way. Especially me.

Having that being said, we can all benefit from living a clean life. Of mind, body and spirit. And if we can’t live a clean life, maybe we can work each day to be a bit cleaner.

How we talk about ourselves and others, to the food we take into our bodies and/or what we focus our attention on throughout the day. Are we complaining or complimenting?

After all, we attract what we focus on. Why not look for ways to brighten our day by choosing to make the strong choice for ourselves and empower others to do the same.

Because there’s always more than enough to go around for everyone.
