Renaissance

When you’re in the middle of it, sometimes it can be hard to determine exactly how monumental a time in your life can be, let alone the world as a whole.

I feel like the times we’re in right now is: renaissance – a period of new growth or activity.

We’re in a shift no doubt. The way businesses are run, the amount of women in the workforce, the moral, social and ethical responsibilities of big corporations who are now getting called out if their mission statement isn’t taking into account global environmental issues, their carbon footprint, sustainable resources, etc.

We all need to make sure we can recognize this changes among us and to act accordingly.

Otherwise, you could get left behind.

Hope

We’re never out of the game as long as we are walking on this earth.

You can never say you don’t have a chance if you have breath in your lungs.

Today is a new day and anything can be the gateway to everything.

We must always remember, the past does not equal the future. Which means you can turn any situation around because this is a new moment.

And we never step in the same stream twice.

Come Together

I’ve never felt the desire to join a running group and meet for drinks after, look at Christmas lights or have treasure hunts to motivate me to go for a run. I don’t belong to a gym, as I don’t need to mix my workouts with socializing. Nor do I feel obligated to pay a company for my fitness. In addition, and with all due respect to those this may effect, if you can drink a hot coffee while doing whatever it is your doing, it’s not exercise. Don’t kid yourself. It’s a get-together. Wow! I sound pretty salty this morning.

However, working with a partner or even a group can keep you on task and hold you accountable for keeping your end of the bargain – commitment. Knowing you are in it with someone else can raise the stakes enough for you so you don’t flake out on your wingman.

I’m involved with a year-long leadership course that involves a total of 5 of us showing up weekly to take in material, do homework, setting goals, working on ourselves and discussing with the group any questions and sharing stories if so inclined.

I’m not quite sure what to expect, but after having our first meeting, I get a sense that sharing your deepest fears, desires, flaws, etc. with like-minded people who are looking to evolve as well could be a really great thing.

We’ll see. Time will tell.

Location Location Location

It doesn’t do you any good to have a map if you don’t know where you are on it.

Knowing where you are in life relative to the big picture can be of great help to you when trying to determine where you’ve come from, where you’re going, in addition to, what you’ll face along the way.

We can only do that by having a healthy perspective of your location. . . Spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally, socially, etc. In order to do this, we must step out amongst the tall trees into a clearing or from high atop of viewpoint and discover where we are in relation to the big picture. Another words, gain some objective perspective.

This can be the most difficult part as our point of view is so real to us, we believe this has to be the only truth. . . until we see where we are located in relationship to the rest of the world.

We can accomplish this by being honest with ourselves and answering the tough questions or with the help from a loved one whom you trust. Either way, the goal is the same: truth.

Monday Monday

When you grow up as a child, usually you seem to soak up, take in and assess the way things are done around your house – whether you like it or not. When you become an adult and are able to create your own attitudes and behaviors, it seems we either replicate that same behavior we grew up with or go the opposite direction.

My father was not a fan of Monday’s. He wasn’t a big fan of work in general, but that’s a whole other story. It was written all over his face every time he pulled his car into the garage after a long day’s work.

As a child, it was always hard for me to get back to school after a fun-filled weekend and you could feel the dread in the air from the looming week ahead of us. I never liked that feeling. I remember saying to myself, “Why is Monday any different than a Wednesday or a Friday?” I came to the conclusion I could view a Monday the same way I view any other day of the week – even a Friday. Why not?

Nowadays as an adult, I’ve made a choice to eliminate that dread from our house on Sunday evenings. I’ve chosen to be grateful for the opportunity to get out of bed, run my own business and show the world the best version of me I can be.

No matter what day of the week it is. As I’ve chosen a different path.
