Exploration

In the movie The Truman Show, Jim Carrey’s character only discovers the “edge” of his universe (a soundstage wall with a door to the outside world) after he embarks on an epic journey when he decides to take a risk to explore the unknown.

I’m not quite sure our world can be compared to his, but nevertheless, we have the option of making the place we live in as expansive or confined as we desire. It’s a mindset. Often times we get stuck in a groove of repetition that can seem to limit ourselves in a variety of ways rather than serve as an infinite playground where anything is possible.

Only when we take a risk and get out of our comfort zone, can the magic of possibility become our ally. This “risk” has the potential of huge returns, and must not only be recognized, but sought out on a regular basis.

Only in the unknown lies the destiny of all we desire. Leaving the comfort of seeing the shoreline in the distance and stepping off our familiar lands is the singular and essential act in order to answer the call deep within us.

So, explore!

A Little Goes A Long Way

A little Love goes a long way.

A little Empathy can change someone’s day.

A bunch of Laughter will lighten our mood and going out of our way to help a stranger carries with it a powerful message.

We have moments in every day to make choices that allow the best version of ourselves to break through.

Why not make a habit of seeking those opportunities out as much as we can.

It may change us for the better – the rest of our days.

Growing Old

This statement gets the short end of the stick the majority of the time.

Most of the time it’s tied to a declaration of reaching and then blowing through your final threshold and losing your patience. Or it’s describing a person who is over the prime of their lives with the appearance of over ripe fruit hanging onto the vine and shriveling up. Yikes!

I choose to look at it a different way. We’re expanding our knowledge as we continue to rack up life experiences making key distinctions we had no idea how to make when we we’re younger.

After all, we’re Growing AND we have a whole lot of life experiences behind us. It can’t be all that bad.

Green Is Good

As I’ve said before; we all have to start from somewhere.

This is something I have to continue to remind my children – especially my youngest when engaging in an activity they haven’t done much before, but care about doing it well.

We all like to pick something up and excel at it immediately. This can’t always be the case. And that’s okay. Often times, when we look back we have fond memories of when we just began learning how to play the drums or our first rounds of golf.

We were trying to soak up as much new information as possible and implement all of it into what we are doing. It has a bit of nostalgia to it. In addition, we’re improving exponentially and that can keep us engaged.

Sometimes the growth can be slow as well. We just need to have patience and know we’re heading in the right direction. It may just take a bit of time.

I hope you like the color green! It suits you well.

Eye On The Ball

It doesn’t matter what sport we choose to play. Whether it’s Football, Basketball or Golf, keeping our eyes on the ball will increase our play by 10X. It sounds pretty simple, but it’s one of those skills that needs to be practiced repeatedly. It takes a disciplined approach.

When playing golf and building up some momentum after hitting the ball fairly well through the first 5 holes, we can get a bit overconfident and begin to take our eye off the ball because we want to swing harder. That doesn’t work. The next thing you know, we’re topping the ball 30 yards off the tee box.

Just like in our daily lives as we strive towards obtaining our goals, if we get distracted and lose our focus, you can guarantee we will not bring our goals to fruition. It takes a focused and discipline approach to keep our eye on our goals. This can be a challenge with so many things pulling at us from every direction calling for our immediate attention. Especially over a long period of time. But, this is exactly when we need to keep our nose to the grindstone.

It may not happen today or even tomorrow, but you can believe if we stay at, over time it will.

As long as we keep our eye on the ball.
